Privacy policy
Last updated 29 October 2026
Meeting Finder is built so you can find a meeting without telling anyone who you are. This policy says what we keep, what we never keep, and what you can ask of us.
Who we are
Meeting Finder is made by iByte Apps Limited, a company registered in England ("we"). We are the controller of the personal data described here. Contact: info@meeting-finder.com.
What we keep
- An anonymous install. When the app first opens it creates a random identifier and a key for your phone. We keep these with the phone's platform, app version, language and time zone, and when it was last used. There is no name, email or phone number.
- Your subscription. If you buy Annual, we keep what Google Play (or the App Store) tells us about that purchase — the product, its dates and its status — so the app can unlock Annual. We never see your card or payment details.
- Messages you send us from Help and support, and corrections you report about a meeting, with the email address you give us if you choose to give one.
- An email address, only if you add one to use your subscription on another phone.
- Server logs (IP address, time, the address requested) for up to 14 days, to keep the service secure and working.
- Crash reports and usage counts from the app, through Google's Firebase Crashlytics and Google Analytics for Firebase. If the app crashes, it sends what went wrong in the app's code, with the phone model, its system version and the app version. It also counts which screens are opened and a few actions, such as saving a meeting or asking for directions, against a random identifier for this install. These never include your location, what you searched for or which meetings you looked at, and the phone's advertising ID is not collected. You can turn this off in the app: Settings, then Crash reports and usage.
What we never keep
- Your location. When you search near you, your phone sends its position with that search. We use it to find meetings and do not store it. On this website, your browser asks you first, and only when you choose "Find meetings near me"; the position goes in the search itself, rounded to about 100 metres, and is not kept.
- Which meetings you looked at, saved or set reminders for. Saved meetings and reminders stay on your phone.
- Anything that would say you are a member of any fellowship (unless you choose to show one beside your name in The Common Room, below).
The Common Room (the chat)
Joining The Common Room, the chat on this website, is your choice, and by joining you agree to us keeping what's below. Being there may say something about you and your recovery, so we keep as little as we can.
- Your email, only to send your sign-in links. Nobody in the room can see it.
- Your name in the room, and the fellowship you choose to show beside it, if you choose one.
- Your messages, for 30 days, then deleted. Members signed in to the room can read them while they're there. You can delete any of them, or your whole account, at any time.
- Reports you make about messages, and when you were last in the room (to show who's here now).
- One cookie (
mf_chat), sent only to The Common Room's pages, to keep you signed in for up to 90 days. It isn't used for anything else, and the rest of this website sets no cookies. - On our other sites and in our apps. The Common Room also appears inside some of our other websites and apps, such as silkworth.net. It's the same room, run by us under this policy, and those sites don't receive your email or your messages from us. We note which site or app you joined on. To keep you signed in there, the site keeps a sign-in key in your browser's local storage (not a cookie) for up to 90 days; signing out removes it.
Before a message appears, OpenAI's moderation service checks it, and OpenAI writes the messages of its AI host (Casey) from the recent conversation. OpenAI, in the United States, does this for us under its API terms, which don't let it use them to train its models. We never send it your email.
Light or dark
If you choose light or dark with the switch at the top of the page, your browser remembers that choice on your own
device (in its local storage, under mf-theme). It isn't a cookie, it's never sent to us, and choosing
"Match my device" removes it.
Adverts
There are no adverts, in the app or here, and nothing tracks you across other apps or websites.
Why we use it (legal bases)
To provide the app you asked for (contract), to keep it secure and fix problems (legitimate interests), to find crashes and see which parts of the app are used, so we know what to fix and improve (legitimate interests; you can turn this off in the app's Settings), to answer you (legitimate interests), and, for The Common Room, your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by deleting your account there.
Who else handles it
Our servers are with Fasthosts in the United Kingdom. Emails are sent through Amazon Web Services. Purchases are handled by Google Play and the App Store. Google receives the app's crash reports and usage counts (Firebase), and may process them in the United States. OpenAI checks The Common Room's messages and writes its AI hosts' messages. We do not sell personal data.
How long
An install's record is kept while the install exists; one that never used the app is deleted after 7 days. Support conversations are deleted two years after the last message, and correction reports go with the install. The Common Room's messages are deleted after 30 days, and your account there when you delete it. Google keeps crash reports for 90 days, and usage counts for up to 14 months. Deleting your data (below) removes all of it.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of what we keep, for it to be corrected, or for it to be deleted, and you can object to how we use it. Email us. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Deleting your data
In the app: Settings, then Delete my data. Or see Delete your data. For The Common Room: Your account, then Delete my account.
Children
Meeting Finder is not directed at children under 13. The Common Room is for people aged 18 or over.
Meeting information
The meetings shown come from lists that AA and NA service bodies publish themselves, and, for Great Britain and Ireland, from Recovery Meeting Finder's copy of the national lists. We do not collect or store the names, phone numbers or emails of members that some lists include.
